ALEX HARRIS, CTC, HONORARY CHAIRMAN,
AMERICAN TOURISM SOCIETY IS
PARTICIPANT AT THE PETRA IV
CONFERENCE OF NOBEL LAUREATES
IN JORDAN

(July 9, 2008 -- New York, NY) Alex Harris, CTC, Honorary Chairman, American Tourism Society (ATS), and Chairman General Tours, was among the distinguished guests invited to The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to attend the Petra IV Conference of Nobel Laureates held in Petra, Jordan, June 17-19, 2008.

His Majesty King Abdullah II co-hosted the event with Elie Wiesel, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986. More than 30 Nobel Laureates were among the participants at this fourth conference, which this year focused on "reaching for new economic, scientific and educational horizons." Fifty students and young professionals represented the youth and future hope for the development of the region.

Harris said, "I was impressed with the determination of the young participants to face global issues such as hunger, education, and economic development, and peace and stability." He noted a link with ATS’s new strategic plan to incorporate an educational emphasis as part of its goals and activities.

Harris said it was truly a once in a lifetime honor to be among such company. "In looking at the objectives of the Petra IV Conference I believe that linking freedom of travel with the value of education, economic contribution as well as reduction in misconceptions and prejudices among countries and peoples is a critical factor in promoting understanding and world peace. The theme of peace fostered at the conference reflects the motto of the American Tourism Society, Bringing the World Together," said Harris. Also with Harris was Senator Akel Biltaji of Jordan, an ATS Board Member, and host of ATS's first conference ever held in the Red/Mediterranean Regional Council in Amman, Jordan, March, 2005 under the Royal Patronage of H.M. King Abdullah II.
